Is New Zealand in a Recession - Sunday, 11th May, 2008

Ok I hear it all the time, so I thought I better write a blog on it. You hear it on the news, in the paper or even the local retailer. New Zealand is in a recession. For example Briscoes and The Warehouse sales are down compared to last year. Petrol prices are higher than ever, food is more expensive. Ok from all this negativity I better put in my two cents. Now firstly, lets talk about Groceries. I shop at Pak n Save in Hamilton, from what I can see prices have never been better. Even at the local New World, I can find some very good bargains even in the dairy department. I would have to agree with the talks on Petrol, it has definitely become more of a luxury to travel by car than just a part of our lives. However, there are a number of alternatives such as: Travel by air; check out grab a seat and you will see some great prices. Instead of taking the car to work, why not walk or bike or even take the bus. The one thing I find very interesting, is how people talk about hard times. From what I can see, I have been offered more opportunties than ever. I have made more money than I have ever made and the opporunities/money keep coming in. I am a strong believer that, what you see is what you get. If you see an abundance of opportunities then that is what you get, if you see nothing then that is what you get. Now here is the best news. In bad times, come the best opportunities. To buy property in America, it is cheaper than ever. Because of the dollar, it is practically a 50% off sale. Silver is becoming very rare and very lucrative to invest in. My E Stores, allow the average user to profit from the online world and purchase luxury items at wholesale prices. So stop worrying, get out there and start making some money. Always looking for light in dark places. Matthew Jones
